Pre-Travel Checklist
Your House
- Water your houseplants/garden plants
- Inspect your yard.
- Clear the fridge and pantry.
- Take care of your pets.
- Contact your alarm company.
- Set a timer for your lights.
- Notify your credit card companies of your travel plans.
- Share your travel plans and a house key with a trusted neighbor or friend.
- Program your thermostat.
- Turn off your water heater or set it to the minimum temperature.
- Close the blinds or curtains.
Your Baggage
- Photograph the contents.
- Check your luggage tag and identifiers.
- Inspect luggage for problems.
- Check all the pockets.
- Weigh your checked bag.
- Take it for a spin.
- Measure your carry-on.
Trip Essentials
- Check your prescriptions. Do you have enough prescription medication to last for your entire trip (plus a little extra, just in case)?
- Double-check your boarding passes and itinerary.
- Check travel requirements for your destination. If your destination country requires certain vaccinations, visas, an arrival tax, or a specific number of free pages in your passport, you want to know that before you leave.
- Put your passport in a safe place.
- Print all your travel info/documents.
- Scan or photograph your passport, driver’s license, and credit cards.
- Withdraw some cash.
- Check your bank balances.
- Schedule a ride to the airport, if necessary.
- Check in for your flight.
- Charge all your electronics.
